Celebrating 25 years of organic gardening excellence

We started 25 years ago with the aim to supply trusted, practical advice for organic gardeners. Today, our focus is still on providing practical solutions so you can live a greener, healthier life.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of ABC Organic Gardener and we are celebrating with our 150th issue, which is filled with organic goodness!

If we were to pinpoint the origin of Organic Gardener, it was a one-off special magazine called Peter Cundall’s Organic Gardening, which was the first in Gardening Australia’s ‘Collector’s Series’.

It was entirely written by Peter Cundall and covered everything from what is meant by organic growing to soil enrichment without chemicals, fruits, vegies, compost and more. It sold fantastically and the ABC decided to start OG as a regular magazine – a sister publication to the already running Gardening Australia magazine. A quarter century later and the magazine still works towards the main aim established by Peter Cundall.

Back in 2017, Peter Cundall wrote:

We’re in the middle of an extraordinarily beneficial and irreversible revolution, probably the most peaceful, life-changing movement in the history of the human race… and it’s worldwide.

Everywhere, more and more people are not only starting to grow their own food, but doing so organically, without using toxic sprays or life-disrupting chemical fertilisers.

The immediate rewards go to children, the most important people on earth, but as this movement spreads, it could be a significant counter to climate change and help ensure the survival of life on earth.

With all that enthusiasm and expertise, the magazine is supported by this website with information and tools that gardeners can use to ensure they have healthy harvests throughout the year.

We started 25 years ago with the aim to supply trusted, practical advice that will support anyone wishing to garden organically and live a healthy, chemical-free lifestyle. Today, our focus is still on providing expert advice so you, the reader, can live a greener, healthier life.
