You can grow lettuce in pots, use them to fill an empty spot as slower growing crops develop or grow them as a border in a garden.

Likes: Cool to warm conditions; bright sunshine.
Dislikes: Extreme heat; poor soils.
When to plant/sow in zone:
How to start: Enrich soil with compost and organic fertiliser. Direct sow or start in punnets. Just press seeds into soil surface – don’t bury them.
How to grow: Keep moist and feed with liquid fertiliser every fortnight. Shade plants in hot weather.
When to harvest: Harvest outside leaves as needed, or the whole lettuce when full size.
Pests and diseases: Snails and slugs; birds
