ABC radio grows their own organic vegies

ABC North Coast radio has launched ‘Local Larder’, an initiative that aims to help build future food security in the community by encouraging listeners to support local producers and grow more organic food at home.

To lead the way, they have set up their very own ‘no-dig’ organic garden on the grounds of their studio to provide the staff with salad ingredients for lunches as well as a much needed break from their busy broadcasting schedule.

“By setting up our own patch, we hope to show people how easy it is and encourage other businesses in the area to do the same . It’s a great project to do as a team, and we’re all looking forward to tucking in to the fruit’s of our labour,” says station manager Justine Frasier.

It’s all a part of their partnership with Northern Rivers Foodlinks and the 12 week Grow Your Own Challenge currently being promoted across the region. Hosted on the sustain food website, the challenge offers participants a step-by-step guide on how to site and build a vegie patch, what to plant, how to care for and harvest vegies.
