It’s Australia’s biggest garden show and Organic Gardener will be there, explains PENNY WOODWARD.
The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS) starts on Wednesday 26th of March and goes through to Sunday 30th of March. And a team from Organic Gardener Magazine will be there every day. We are at Stand 28 (if you enter from Victoria Street then turn right and you’ll find us on the right just before you get to the first corner). This year we will have a special subscription offer that includes a free show bag. We’ll also have magazine back issues for sale for $3 and Essential Guides for $5, as well as our lovely organic cotton tea towels for $9.95.
The show is held in the Carlton Gardens under the beautiful old trees, as well as the superb Exhibition Buildings, the site of Australia’s first parliament. The gardens are full of display gardens created by some of our best designers including Paul Bangay, Phillip Johnson, Rick Eckersley and Caroline Blackman. You can look forward to seeing The Urban Container Garden, The Patriach’s Garden, The Gardener’s Library, Emerge — The Family Life Garden, another that explores the potential of left over spaces in the city, and one called ‘Here and Now’. There are also five boutique gardens that create a beautiful garden within a small garden space and one of my favourites, The Avenue of Achievable Gardens. These last are often surprising but always innovative gardens, created by students, that can be recreated in your own garden.
For families with young children, look for the Fairies and Pirates Garden that is packed with activities. As well as all this there is the great hall of flowers inside the Exhibition Building and entertainment, a sculpture exhibition and many, many exhibitors with all sorts of interesting gardening things to display, talk about and sell.
So come and see us, ask all your gardening questions and subscribe for another year or two of informative, inspiring and beautifully photographed articles.
The show is open from 9am to 5pm and the entry cost is $27 for an adult, $19 concession and $55 for a family. For more information go to the MIFGS website.
