Patience is needed as you wait for your artichoke plants to establish: if grown from seed will flower in second year. Divisions will establish and flower quicker.

Likes: A sunny position in well-drained soil.
Dislikes: Getting waterlogged in winter and humidity in summer.
When to plant/sow in zone:
How to start: Sow seed in punnets or trays and transplant after risk of frost has passed. Plant seedlings 1–1.5m apart.
How to grow: Divide crowded clumps and replant shoots in autumn, ever 2–3 years.
When to harvest: 2–3 months in spring and early summer before flower bud opens.
