If grown from seed artichoke plants will flower in their second year. Divisions will establish and flower quicker.

Likes: A sunny position in well-drained soil.
Dislikes: Getting waterlogged in winter and humidity in summer.
When to plant/sow in a warm temperate zone: Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec
How to start: Sow seed in punnets or trays and transplant after risk of frost has passed. Plant seedlings 1–1.5m apart.
How to grow: Divide crowded clumps and replant shoots in autumn, ever 2–3 years.
When to harvest: 2–3 months in spring and early summer before flower bud opens.
