Carrots

Select Your Climate

To get long, straight carrots, before planting break up soil, removing any clods and stones or debris as you go so soil is nice and loose.

Likes: Deep, friable soil with good drainage, sunshine.
Dislikes: Being transplanted.
When to plant/sow in zone:
Sow Seed: Sprinkle seeds sparingly along rows of soil.
How to plant: Sow seeds directly into moist soil. Thin seedlings so plants about 5cm apart.
When to harvest: If you want smaller, baby carrots you can pick earlier. Assess the size from the ‘shoulder’ or top of carrot as they peek out of soil.
Pests and diseases: Carrot fly
