Kohlrabi

Kohlrabi isn’t a root vegetable, instead it has a swollen stem that grows above the ground and tastes great in salads or stir-fries.

Likes: Full sun to part shade; free-draining fertile soil.
Dislikes: Drying out.
When to plant/sow in zone:
How to start: Enrich soil with compost and organic fertiliser. Sow seed direct or in punnets 5mm deep.
How to grow: Keep moist and feed every 6 weeks with organic fertiliser. Shade in hot weather.
When to harvest: Wait until stem is 5–7cm in diameter – any larger and it becomes woody. Leaves can also be eaten.
