Winter savory

Little known and used, winter savory (Satureja montana) is a low, shrubby herb that comes into its own in winter with notes of marjoram, thyme and mint.

Likes: Well-drained soil; full sun.
Dislikes: Excess water.
When to plant/sow in zone:
How to start: Sow seeds on surface of premium potting mix in tray or punnet. Also grows easily from cuttings and divisions. Allow a 50cm space to spread.
How to grow: Water regularly until established then water in dry times. Trim annually to keep compact.
When to harvest: Leaves can be picked all year round.
