White oil spray

Story by

Leonie Shanahan explains how to make white oil spray.

White Oil spray
Use for sap sucking insects, mealy bug, aphids, two-spotted mite, citrus leaf miner, whitefly and scale. Apply to woody plants. The pests are suffocated by the spray.  Neem is an alternative organic spray that is also used for these pests.

Method
In a bottle mix 1/2 cup dishwashing detergent with 1 cup cooking oil (check the oil is not GM). Seal the bottle and shake until white. This is your concentrate.

To use, dilute 1 tbsp of spray in 1 litre water. Spray over the affect areas. Apply every 3 weeks until the problem is fixed   Don’t use if temperatures will be over 30ºC  or if it’s windy. Best sprayed on an overcast day.
